about

Adolyne - The Lubber

The first time I came across SND was the video for “The Lubber” on a late night re-run of 'Loud’ and it seemed to operate and thrive in contradiction to all of its neighboring videos. The song oscillated between heinous, formless racket and vulgar battery pouring out of three normal looking people who seemed to almost aloofly out-weigh and out-terrify everything else in their blast radius. I was a bit distressed by it.
Still am.
When Adolyne was asked to take part in this tribute I almost talked myself out of covering “The Lubber” out of sheer reverence, as it truly is one of those few songs I have that brings me to a particular room, temperature, tube TV, season, etc – but when my band members found out why we were looking at other tunes they told me to give my fucking head a shake. I’m glad they talked me in to going full circle with this song. It means more to me than I will likely ever admit out loud.

In late 2018 my other band (KEN mode) was lucky enough to do a clutch of dates with SND, an opportunity that I found exciting, surreal and daunting due to many intervening years of hearing loss at the spinning altar of '...apparatus..'. As a fan I'm fortunate to have those shows to hold on to, and as a human I'm even more fortunate to have had the chance to spend time with Biff, Dan, and Tony. Tony was a monster on the kit and behind the mic and absolute gentleman everywhere else.
I'm happy to have found out first hand. – Skot
