OGIMAA - Six Foot Foam Skull
Shallow came to the attention of us Winnipeggers as an adopted addition to our little noise rock scene in the mid-90’s, in particular as the kindred spirits of our beloved Kittens. The two ‘seniors’ in our band have everlasting memories of seeing them play together, usually noted as a must-see event whenever it happened. The crushing heaviness that came from Shallow was the kind of thing to make us musicians in the crowd wonder what the fuck we were doing. That grimy guitar tone, the earthquaking bass, and Tony’s thunderous drums. How? Just fucking how?
Ogimaa has many thanks to Ken Mode for getting them back to Winnipeg one last time a few years back. Not only could Chris and Scott experience them again, but also so our ‘less aged’ guitarist, Brandon, could too. Nearly a toddler when this was all going down originally - now an aficionado of all things heavy, fuzzed-out guitar - Brandon’s ‘mind-blown’ response to the event showed us a reminder of the enthusiasm and bewilderment everybody experienced when seeing them for the first time.
Tony’s passing is heartbreaking, but we are thankful and proud to be included in this effort to give new life to his music and help cement the legendary status that is Shallow.
